Why do they always have straight axels? I always think when I see them trucks how independent suspension would be so much better from ground clearance like a sandrail wouldn't it? Same for mud trucks. Jack em up to the moon but the axels wont go any higher and its the lowest part of the trucks.

from an article

Straight axle suspensions have many benefits over an IFS (Independent Front Suspension). A straight axle setup is much stronger, allows for more articulation, provides higher ground clearance, and any height of the vehicle can be attained.

Straight axle articulates much better than an independent on rocks and off camber stuff. If it was IFS you would need crazy travel to achieve the same thing.

Its a cool sport, me tho Id rather a sand rail.

I have watched some of his videos before on youtube and his buggy is pretty BA and he build a lot of it himself.

not true. IFS definitely articulates more it is just weaker (most of the time). Look at king of the hammer builds more and more people are starting to do IFS it is just really expensive at this time to build it "Strong". I think the last years winner had a custom IFS setup. Now in these southern high HP buggies I really don't know if they could make it strong enough.

The travel needed with an IFS is just insanely costly and inherently weaker than a SFA. But your right, it is being done, but man oh man the cost is quite a bit to build it to withstand such abuse.
