400ex to 450

alright guys..im thinking its time for a 450, on my 400ex i go on a 20 mile ride maybe a little longer in the dunes and i about ride the thing dry haha. its still fun but just kinda boring when i have it pinned WOT. i do alot of dunes and a decent amount of logging roads and trails, which 450 do you think would be good for me? i was thinking 450r...im a honda kid hah, btw im almost 15 about 145ish and 5'11" i pay for all my own bikes but i think a 450r could be picked for an easy 3g's.

I'm the same size as you same age, when i was 13 i had a 400ex like you and wanted a 450, i looked at yfz but was scared away buy the crank oiling probs, bought a clean 04 450r for 3000, best thing I ever did. If your worried about gas carry a gallon on the grab bar or somthing. first thing to do is tires tho haha.

now days some 06+'s are going for 3000 and nice 04/05's are going for 2500ish

take it from someone that owns a 400ex,07 450r and a trx250r.im only 17 and just like you i pay for all my toys too.once u get on the 450r,first thing you notice is the gears.my buddy will ride my 400ex,and ill ride my 450r.when hes in places where the 400ex is in second gear,im in first.next will be the slight more bottom end.my 400ex is a 440 so its gotta lott low end.but the top end on the 450 is where you'll crack a smile.i love it.the handleing is similer but the 450 seems lighter and you can throw it around like a 250r.i love them both but you'll love the change.good luck on finding a nice machine,go for somthing with minor mods so u can set it up the way u ride.

thanks guys! honestly i thought i'd ride woods more thats why i got a 400ex. but as the family got quads we go to the dunes more so im usually in the top end vs lugging on trails. i would LOVE to have a lighter more flickable bike because i do alot of 3rd gear sand/dune trails and its nice to be able to just flick it around a berm or adjust in the air. now to try to get rid of my 05 400ex....just not cuttin it.. haha. thanks guys i appreciate it!

I have a 450r too, but for the dunes nothing gives me more smiles than my crappy old banshee..:D :D
