Ok guys a few questions, my quad just feels like it pulls forever but doesnt feel rocket fast? where is everyone at on gearing? I have an 06 YZ450 engine, my current gearing is 14/38 where is everyone else at?

my other question is this, how is everyone keeping their quad from overheating? my seems to push coolant a lot, I found the radiator cap was bad so i replaced it, anyone got any other suggestions?

That's the same gearing I'm running and mine feels pretty fast. How much is your motor modded? Mine is a TC national motor.

Mine doesn't overheat as long as I stay moving enough to get plenty of air into the radiator. If I just put around for too long, then it'll get hot. But as long as you're getting plenty of air to it, it's always been fine. What kind of coolant are you running? I never thought there was THAT much of a difference until I had a LSR CRF hybrid. It kept running hot and the guy that did a lot of my work told me to switch from Maxima Coolanol to Engine Ice and it did the trick. So I've been running Engine Ice in all my quads since then.

Engine ice is a good coolant to run for sure!

But if your overheating, you have some other issues going on other than the cooling system itself more than likely. Jetting, esp. on the idle and pilot circuit are one of the most overlooked and improperly tuned things. Just a little off, can cause bigger issues.

Any aftermarket aluminum radiator on the market now days is More than enough to keep these engines cool. Ive had stroked big bore crazy compresion 65+hp engines and a simple walsh rad was all i ever needed. Never overheated going slow play riding or wide open racing.

I would start with checking the simple things... jetting, intake leaks, exhaust leaks etc... Still not coming up with anything, pull the head and check the gasket and surfaces out. Then go from there. If your pushing out coolant in short amount of ride times you could have a blown head gasket.

run it w/ radiator cap off. If you see air bumbles, you have a bad head gasket. Mine runs hot, but so hot that it pukes alot. It does puke some(before I switched to evan's npg-r coolant).
