I've been out a couple a times with my new engine, i'm thinking of having it dyno tuned. Im planning on going with hetrick's racing to have it done. what should i do before hand and what should i make sure gets done. Thanks

I'd change the oil and filter and take a few different sizes of jets.

Yeah thats a good idea take a few jets, or i'll give them a call to see how much they sell them for.

I cant wait to see what that thing dyno's at.I think I have mine narrowed down to doing the 440 stroker (416 bore and +4 stroke) when I get into the motor since it's an 01 and oem bore and piston. It still has good power, doesn't smoke, and starts right up.The only thing I could use motor wise is a new clutch. You gotta love the the 400 :D

I love the power, theres a slight sluggishness in the carb. I cant wait to see how much more power when its right.

With all the stuff I've read on here you should see 45+ hp.That would be nice :D

I've been thinking 45hp but 50 would be great though lol

Your numbers all depend on how this particular dyno reads. Without a baseline your numbers will mean nothing.

I would ask if they dyno'd any quads that were stock to give you a baseline.

If the dyno is reading how most will, I am going to guess your numbers to be low 40's.

I have noticed that knobby tires usually dyno lower than what they do with slicks or TT tires.

I have a friend who just had his TRX450R completely built by Moto-Xperts and his quad put down 48 with his razr 2's and 54 on slicks.

Other than making sure everything is running correctly I would suggest a slick tire if they do not provide them.

All that really matters to me more than number is the proper A/F and having it run great.

Good luck man, let us know what jets you ended up with. What happened to the piston in our kits being 11.5:1? I see 12.5:1 in your sig?

I asked Laz when i picked up the engine again and said 12.5 instead of the 11.5:1 as when i called. I want to do a compression test and see what it comes out with. Also i would i like to find out what it would take to do a 88mm or 89mm bore with his stroker.

So I was right all along lol that's what he originally told me as well, but that was several years ago. (changes sig hahaha :p )

Well it dynoed 40hp and 32 Ft/lbs

While still pretty impressive from a 400ex, I was expecting a bit more.

Wish you had a stocker's dyno numbers to compare it with.

Did they change the jetting while it was there? What tires did you dyno with?

They said a stock 400 makes low 20s on there dyno, so really im pretty happy. They kept the jetting the same, the graph was decent. They had a set of TT tires to run it. I found i need to change my carrier bearing sooner than later, could have made a bit more. Im going to get the graph up soon

Thats a nice increase in HP!

I'm interested in seeing the graph!

Considering the fact that a 1960's 1200cc VW bug has a whopping 34 hp and your 400cc single is pushing 40, that's awesome!

I also ran to 79.79 MPH on 16/38 gearing, The other day i had it out drag racing against a mild 400ex it wasn't even fun...id like to find a 450 to go against. It also like to wheelie still in 4th. It looks like the tq and Hp graphs meet right around 5300rpm

Well given that a stock 400EX motor makes about 27-28 HP at the flywheel and you made 40 to the wheels, you could guess that you are in the high 40's at the engine, very close to 50. Really not bad at all.

What jetting did you end up with, and did it fix the stutter you were having before?

When they had it on the dyno, they didnt change a thing , its exactly as we started with nacs lol. It didnt have the stumble and a nice sine wave in the A/F graph, i just email them to get a copy of the print out. I tried to take a picture of the print out i have and its blurry.
