Are any Kansas 250R owners going to race the flat track races August 5,6, and the 11? The race info is on the KATVA web site.

There are a lot of people racing with knobbies. I was hoping to see more R's racing this year.

No, I have not raced any other races. It has been to hot. Plus I have been stuck in Dodge City for work for the last two weeks.

I know I missed the race today. I spent all day yesterday putting my spare Pro Trax front end on my flat track bike. How did you do at the race today? I didn't really care for that track anyway. I will not miss the race at Jeeps. I had to sacrifice the race today so I can race the four flat track races and the Jeeps motocross race. Here are some pics of my 89 flat track R.

I plan on racing both. I like motocross more, but flat track racing is alot of fun also. The motor has a Paul Turner Eliminator cylinder,CR ignition, Rad valve, Sparks TT pipe, Sparks 39 mm carb., Hinson clutch basket. How did you do at Inman?

Sounds like a ripper! Running race fuel? I just switched over to my arsene racing 265 cylinder running 210 compression and race fuel, and i swear its got better power than my 310 ever did. The sure can work wonders on those stock cylinders!

I did terrible, hadnt ridden in 4 months, I was tired from puting the new crank in the night before the race. and im still having overheating issues and i cant seem to figure it out.

Felt good to get out and ride though!

I don't run anything but race fuel. That sucks you didn't do very well at Inman. At least you were there representing the 250r. I should have went. I can't wait to race Jeeps again. That track is sweet. Was there a big turn out?

No it was strange! There wasnt anyone there. The first round at inman we about filed the parking lot but this time there was very few. It was strange. They even paid out C, B, and pro am classes this race and stil no one showed.
Jeeps is a pretty sweet track, doesnt get much better than that track. I look foreward to racin there! What class are you running?

You run temp gauges on your motocross 250r dont you? Yours runs cool? You know much about cooling systems? Maybe you could give me a hand with mine. Im about ready to try anything.

I don't run a temp. gauge. I have never had a cooling issue. How hot does yours get?

250+ is about average running temperature. I cant seem to figure the problem out...
I leak tested the cylinder, everything checked out perfect, reeds are good, carb is jetted plenty rich, reasonable compression (210) on 110 race fuel, clean and free of debree airfilter and exhaust, radiator is clean on the inside but has prolly 20% bent fins, waterpump looks good and is clean, as far as i know the cooling system holds pressure fine, Tried 2 different cylinders and both overheat, tried adjusting timing back some, didnt help... Im just puzzled. And i still cant explain why its overheating!

Does it boil the coolant out of the radiator?

No, it doesnt boil it out. I dont quite know why, but it always seems to be full when i check it.

I would run it. Why do you think it is overheating?

My esr temp gauge says its running hot. I tried a different temp gauge that is known to be correct and it also says its running over 250 degrees. I confirmed that the waterpump was pumping well the other day, i think my front bumper may be too big and with my number plate on there it doesnt get much flow at all, even when riding down the road. I may need to add a fan or free up some space in front of the radiator. Thats virtually about all it could be.

Figured it out! Problem solved. Today my PWR arrived so i installed it, took it for a spin and it was still getting hot, dissappionted i drove it back into the shop and sat and thought for a minute. I wondered how much airflow the radiator was getting being behind the bumper which completely blocks flow. I also noticed when i put my hand behind the radiator when drivin down the road, hardly any flow was getting to the radiator. So I removed the DG National bumper i had on there before and put my stocker on. Took it for a spin, and the problem was solved. I ran the piss out of it and i couldnt get the gauge to show over 160. I could easily tell the difference in flow from putting my hand behind the radiator.
I find it hard to believe something to simple could solve it, but i did, and it sure as hell makes made my day.

That's great you figured it out. Are you going to put your 310 cylinder back on?

Not quite yet. I will eventually put it back on but i have a fresh piston and bore on my stock cylinder so im going to run it til the pistons wore out of spec, then possibly change back over to my 310, or Ive been tossing around the idea of selling it and getting a 350 cylinder from esr. Still havnt decided yet.

Cool. Save me a parking spot Sunday at Jeeps.
