Hi guys. I snoozed on a real nice '87-'89 rear skid plate on eBay a couple weeks ago. (shoulda woulda coulda)
So... Just trying to kick the weeds and see if I can find one (or two) real nice OEM plates for restos. No beat to hell and back scrap metal need apply (LOL). Here's the differences in the '85 on up R rear skids. Just if you're sketchy as to what year you might have. The '87-'89 has the longer chain slider "finger" going up toward the engine. I could use 1 or 2 of the '87- '89 units.
Thanks for any help, and/or pics! (Please PM me)
-Andy

Andy, if you do a little research, based on my older microfiche, the 85 ATC skid carried over on a few early TRX's. And I'm pretty sure what you have labeled as 87-89 should actually be 88-89. The bolt holes should be a dead giveaway on that. I don't think the skid for the aluminum arm will even bolt up to a steel 86-87 arm. Just measure the bolt holes center to center on an 86-87 arm and an 88-89 arm.

I knew this debate would come up.
I'll take a picture of that exact skid plate bolted up on both my stock '87 &'89 TRXs when I get home from work tomorrow. The '87 is year specific, but shares the same skid plate bolt pattern as the '88-'89.
You learn just how many updates (a bunch) Honda did from '86 to '87 when you build an OEM stock '87 from the ground up.
Don't want to seem like a "know it all", so hopefully seeing is believing...... (LOL)
Back to work......

Please do take a pic of this. Most of my experience has been with 86 or 88-89, never much with an 87. Seems strange that they would move the mounts on the steel arm, but like you said, seeing IS believing.

Ok, so this thread is taking a left turn...(LOL)

I'll bet many think the headlight "cage" hanger is the same on the '86 and '87 Rs too. Nope.
I've gotten a rude education on this '87 OE build! Costly and not as fun as I anticipated. Well time to pass on the lessons.

'87 with '86 aside for comparison
