chain issues

My buddy races a 07 trx300ex in mx and the bike is pretty much 100% aftermarket and hes having issues with his chain. He said 1 minute its tight and the next its loose. Said everytime he checks it its 1 or the other.??????? bike has a NEW lsr carrier so the bearings are good.

check the swing arm bearings.. mine is doin the exact same thing.. drivin me nutts
trying to get the swing arm bolt out ..

thanks ive narrowed it down to either the swingarm or axle carrier was junk from the get go

does he have the stock swing arm? I know you said mostly aftermarket but what you are saying is classic with a stock swing arm. Stand the quad on the grab bar and look real close and th bottom of the clamp. They are bad about cracking. It's hard to see and only takes a little bit. The fix is to take the bolts all the way, pry it open a little with a screw driver and weld the crack.

still could be your problem. Just check for cracks round the bolts. Doesn't have to be much.

Swingarm bolt hole in the frame is ovaled out big time too much slack so it was shifting causing it to eat up the rear sprocket and chain to be loose and tight both

weld the hole up and redrill ?? best thing i know

I have welded a washer in place. Seems to work pretty good.
