Im sure the info is in someones build thread but I haven't found it yet. I'm doin a complete stock resto on two 89's and wanted some brand names or color codes for powder that will best match the 89 Honda Fightin Red. Thanks, Ryan

I used Columbia coatings, super mirror red for my 89 resto. Its not a perfect match but really close. PM K10Siebel he's done alot of 250r restorations and might know of a better match.

Here is my restored 89:

I agree, that looks pretty dang close! Looks real good in the fully assembled pic! Thats the result I'm hoping for in my resto! Both 89's I have are complete stock bikes, and in need of a few small details and pieces to get back to all original.

I havent had any luck contacting K10Seibel to see if he knows of a closer match, any others have PC suggestions? I have the frames blasted and ready for powder. Thanks, Ryan

Sorry I'm a little slow superman.
Here's what I've surmised so far....
Now keep in mind I've not done an entire frame yet in this "Traffic Red", but it looks to possibly be closer to the '88-'89 frame color than the slightly darker "Mirror Red". (in my opinion)
Hope this picture helps. Judging colors from a photo on the internet is always kinda vague. For example (absolutely no "diss" implied), Troy's frame looks lighter in his garage lighting than outside in the sun. Things are a little off I'm sure here too due to my lighting. ???
The Mirror Red is to the underlying left, with a sample of Traffic on top (right) and a sample card directly underneath, also of Traffic Red.
You be the judge, as I can't fully say for sure. When I get to my '89 I'll test the Traffic further before committing to it myself. Hate it to look "off" after all the labor. The Mirror is probably a very fine choice. It just seems to me though, that the '88-'89 frame color is a bit lighter than the earlier Rs.
Guys feel free to pile on with your opinions/thoughts... What'cha think?

Kinda hard to judge with the textured surface of the Traffic Red sample, but I do agree with your thought that the 88-89s seem a shade lighter than the 86-87s, Ive even heard others say that the 88-89s have sort of a orange tint when out in sunlight. Thanks for the info!

Ya, you're right. The dimpled surface doesn't help my photo either. Sorry, wish I'd done a sample on straight stock. It's been a while since I've played with that color....
I also agree on the orange~ish tint.
Hope all goes well for ya!

Like superman said, it's tough to tell with the textured surface but I do think that traffic red looks closer to the original paint.

why doesn't someone send a sample part to Columbia Coatings and get the color matched? And if someone does I'll take a couple pounds.
