My started all the sudden started spinning freely. It no longer cranks the motor over. It was working fine about halfway through the day yesterday.

Then when i tried to start it again it just spun freely and doesn't actually turn over the motor. It jst sounds like it's spinning fast in there?

do i need to get a new starter or what most likely happened here? I've had some people telling me that depending onw hat is broke i may have to split the case. I really dont' want to do that haha.

pop off the little round cover on the stator side and see if the gear is spinning. That gear connects the starter to the motor. If its not its just the starter you can find em on ebay. If it is you might have to pull the stator cover off and check a little deeper but you wont have to split the cases unless the crank is damaged.
