Havnt been on in awhile but im trying to sell my 400, and im trying to get some things fixed ive ignored for the past 3 months. When i hit my start button, it clicks 3-4 times, then it will start. My solenoid will spark when i cross the neg and pos together. So does that mean my brushes in the starter need replaced? Battery is fully charged and its puttin out 12v's. Let me know. Thanks

Almost sounds like a connection problem, the wire from the battery to the relay frayed or anything?

I'm Checking everything today and making sure all the grounds are good. The solenoid makes a pretty good tick. you can even feel it if you touch it when you press the start button.

do you have a way to check the power coming out of the relay when you hit the starter button? sounds like your relay is starting to go bad.

if you jump the relay terminals, and the starter still doesn't turn, then id start looking at the starter. take it apart and look at the brushes. clean the commutator while you have it apart. worn brushes will be pretty obvious and propably the problem.

ah i didn't see that he already tried checking the relay. i've gone through replacing the brushes already and it sounds like it could be a culprit. my problem was the wire attached to one of the brushes actually broke.

On the wire from the battery to the relay, there was a corroded ground. A little sand paper and it fires right up now! :D
