anyone have a suggestion as to where to get the 4 acorn nuts that screw onto the head studs, as i have HD head studs an the stock nuts arent the same thread pitch. i was thinking ace or such?
any suggestions
Since when arent they the same thread pitch? I have worked on 2 diff 400's with GTT studs (mine is one of them) and both I used the stock nuts.
Did you have GTT install it or someone else-someone coulda installed it up sidedown

sent it to gt thunder, i tried lightly threading the stock nuts on to the gtt head studs and they thread a little then become snug...i went back to my old cylinder and head studs and they spin on perfect, perhaps the nuts threads are just streched from heat buildup or excessive torqueing at one time or another. From what i recalled the gtt and stock thread pitch was the same. correct me if im wrong?

Yea, should be same thread pitch.
Id take 1 nut and some oil and lightly try and clean up the threads with them or find some ones form home depot with the same thread pitch to clean up the studs. You can buy the acorn nuts from somewhere like bike bandit. I think its part #9 here: Bike Bandit (http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2000-honda-trx400ex-fourtrax-ex/o/m2657#sch91855)

looks like the threads were just stretched. i put on some new oem spares i had and problem solved..(i guess i was being way to cautious and didnt want to risk stripping anything) thanks cjm your always a help!
NP Vinson, glad everything is A-OK!
FYI: 33 foot pounds is the torque spec for them.
