What trans? E4OD?

Pull codes first.

Could be the TPS, MLPS, or the rear ABS. Very common on the E4OD.. Been there done that :ermm:

Also is the OD off light flashing?

Pull codes, check fluid-does it look like tar and smell burnt=bad. Could try changing fluid too.

Def check the codes if the CEL came on.

This will help you if you haven't ever pulled codes before.

Or if your not good at counting flashes pick up an Equus 3145 code scanner for like $25

AND, if you're clunking or banging during a shift, check other possible causes other than transmission. Bad or worn U-joints, as well as too much slop in the rear differential, could also create noise during shifting. I've seen both of these problems on early 90s fords.

IDK about where everyone else is but auto parts stores only scan OBD2 around here. For OBD1 your on your own.
