Correct.. People say this and that.. I have had cams that needed to be ran at 4k rpms for 25 min in some of my boat set ups.. They are heat treated before hand.. Some people say to break a engine in diff ways.. We have always warmed them up, then ride it the way you plan to.. Your prob not going to get one answer, because people do it and rec doing it diff ways.. Just like fresh engines on a dyno.. They are new and the run the **** out of them for sometimes a hour to tune and get them rite.. have at it IMO

2 very simple steps:
1. Turn engine over, let warm up for a good 10-15 mins.
2. Ride is like you stole it. Vary rpms, on and off throttle, go thru all the gears, etc.

The changes in rpm, the dragging around, on and off throttle will seat the rings and break it in just fine. Coincidentally thats pretty much what motoman says to do as well.

But and this is VERY important: It must be jetted right (or close) before you do anything, otherwise if you run it lean all day say goodbye to your topend. Better to be rich even than lean.
