okay i dont know much about 250rs besides that they are similar to 400exs. I found a 1987 250r for $1500. I was trying to decide if its a good idea to buy it, clean it up and fix whatever and try and sell it for a profit.

it has a full fmf, renthal bars and 38mm PWK Quad Vent Air Stryker carb

it says +5mm longrod with 86 style cylinder and takes race gas but im not sure if thats just something to do with a 2 stroke or if it has a high comp piston in it

the appearance of the quad is horrible the plastics are cracked and it looks like its never been cleaned off

i wanted to buy it, tear it down to the frame, powdercoat probably and just try to clean it up as much as i can to make it look as good as possible

i recently completly rebuilt my 400ex so i know what im doing outside the engine, i havnt tried to get inside any engines though

would this be a good idea?

i dont think you will make any money on that bike. It looks like a full stock bike with some motor mods.

it would be worth more if it had some suspension modifications which will cost money. plastic will cost money.

My opinion it depends on the local market for 250rs. around here that bike is barley worth 1500 and with new suspension might be worth 1800-2000. which is less then it would cost for you to put those mods on.

so for me it would be a definite no.

Looks pretty orginal. The condition of the plastics is expected they are what? 24 years old? Look beyond the plastics. Is the frame cracked? Does the motor run well? Is it missing anything? Just from what I see assuming it runs good and frame is straight I would give the asking price but start lower. Maybe $1200. If he bites great if not worst that can happen you pay the asking.

Good luck

Depends on what you are after and your budget. If it only takes you months to save up another $1500 consider what you can buy with $3000 vs how little you can add to that one for an additional $1500. You would probably be better off passing it up based on the overall condition. What ever you end up doing good luck!

It would be cool if you saved it from certain death lol. Poor fella had a rough life, not worth it. See if he would take $1000 cash for it?

I'd take 2000 for this one and can't get it in the midwest. You would need to buy that one for 400 to 500 if you want to flip it in my opinion.

I like the idea of rescuing it though.

Thanks guys for the quick reply but yeah I think if I can get it for 700-1000 then maybe ill do it but that still doesn't leave much room to make any profit

I don't think you could make any money at 1000.00. OK for a fun play project that you may take a little loss on but save a 250r.

Just based on that picture, I would pass either way unless you just want it as parts. It looks like the frame is wrecked. The pivot bolt area looks wrong and so does the a-arms - like they are bent in.

I like the idea of rescuing it though. Where were you last winter... And your local to me. Nice quad!

Thanks. It is real decent. The fenders aren't OEM, they're Maier, but the rest of it is all there and in nice shape. I still have it if you need another.
