do you have a good connection? does it tell you to test your connection and then when you try to test it, it says you need to download the update? if so it could be your routers firewall. you need to set the firewall to low. This will possibly allow more viruses into your computer but if you have a good virus software it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok so all my connections are all good when I test it everything works ... So how do I set the firewall to low and also after I do the updates can I change it back?

To do this, go to your routers homepage by entering the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser like the picture below:
On an eircom router, it will '192.168.1.254' by default (As far as I'm aware), but on 3rd party routers such as Netgear etc, it should be '192.168.0.1'.
You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is password, but this may not be the case for yours, sometimes the password is simply nothing, so leave it blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.
Then, follow the relevant instructions on your routers homepage to turn the firewall down to low. On an eircom router, it should be simply a matter of clicking on "Firewall" on the left panel, and selecting Low.

There is so many possibilities I'm no guru I'm wondering if it could have something to do with your Nat type I know that effects something on live. I thought you said you can start the updates but it just stops half way threw them. Have you typed the problem into Google?
