Im not that good at math but Ill take a stab at it, 1/29 is .0345. So .0345 x 1949 equals 67?

Trick question. It doesn’t give the year of his death so there no way to calculate.

Bent is right. With two variables you can't come to a single answer. I thought that fact that the question implies that the person was alive in 1949 would narrow it down but even with that there are three possibilities.

If the person was born in 1885 and died at 65 then they would be 64 in 1949...

If the person was born in 1914 and died at 66 then they would be 35 in 1949...

If the person was born in 1943 and died at 67 then they would be 6 in 1949...

That's the best I can come up with.

Did you leave out a piece of information because the way you posted it there could be many answers. There needs to be a guideline to either the year of his birth or death.
If the trick is to find the whole numbers of his age then he could have been born in 1885, die at age 65 and be 64 in 1949.
or
be born in 1914, die at age 66 and be 35 in 1949.
or
be born in 1943, die at age 67 and be 6 in 1949.

Any of those answers meet the rules you posted, if decimals are included the answers are endless..

I would have expected him to say he was 6 in 1949. What year was he born and what year did he die?

If you knew that then it wouldnt be a hard problem

When you get the answer from your teacher you better post it here. Otherwise we will all hunt you down and pelt you with greasy lug nuts and old corroded carburetor jets.

pmarra there is no way to tell how old he is. You don't know when he died or when he was born.

Edit, to solve this problem you need either his birth year, his death year, or his age at death.

Curiosity has the best of me, did you find out the answer and/or reasoning behind the answer?
