I have a 99 400ex. It has a full big gun exhaust, k&n filter and -1 front sproket. I can keep up with all my friends in the trails but when we get out in the open I have a few friends who can pull on me pretty bad. I know if I went down in the back or up in the front I could pick up some top end but I don't wanna loose my torque. I was thinking what if I went up like 3 teeth in the front to pick up a some top speed and up 3 teeth in the back to try to help keep my torque. Would that work? Or would I just be wasting my time? I need moe top speed but don't wanna loose all my bottom end power. Can someoen help please??

The only way to acheive what you want to do is to do some motor work. If you increase your gearing you will loose your lowend. There is no way around it without motor work.

Im going to build a 426 over the winter with a 450R carb but just wanted to pick up some top end until then.

Its not gonna happen. You killed any speed you have with the 14t front sprocket, you will not gain it back with playing with sprockets to much at all. Unless you put them back to stock. If you go up on the front say goodbye to torque and if you go down in the rear 1t you wont feel it at all pretty much.

You want the best of both worlds as drew already said: motor build. 11:1, 416 or 426 (really doesnt matter its only 10cc's), stage 2 hot cam, 450r carb, put your 15t back on, good exhaust and open airbox will get you EXCELLENT power.

I love the insane speed of the 16t front, but i have plenty of engine to feed it, i have more torque now then the 13t front and the mods before the build.

Would a 450R carb help my setup I have now much? If it would give me a little more power like I have read I could go back to stock front sproket. I know a guy who has one for 85 bucks.

for 85$ I'd jump on it..

You could always mod your engine later.. with a good carb, you've already got a good base to start adding; BB, cam, P&P, and all of the other goodies :D
