I just realized that the 88-89 Laeger Swingarm I bought for my build is 17.5" center to center... so -1" from the 88-89 stock length swingarm..

What differences will this make in my rear end setup? .... Do I still go about setting up the rear end as if it were stock length..meaning using 88-89 linkage, and 88 shock length when I go to order my rear shock?

Whats the pros and cons of having a one inch shorter swingarm?

generally people say a longer swing arm will handle better. a shorter swing arm doesnt handle as good but gives more traction to the rear wheels

sometimes its a personal preference.

Thanks guys....,.,.,.

I am really wondering and struggling with what to do on this one. I don't know whether to keep the 17.5" swingarm I have now, or go grab it from the Powder Coater before he starts work on it, and try to find a 18.5" stock length Swingarm....

I am really feeling like I would rather have, and probably should have the stock length swingarm for MX applications, but if the difference will not really be that noticable I would like to just keep the one I have rather than going through the hassle of trying to sell it, and find a good replacement...

Has anyone used the shorter swingarm before? I guess maybe its just a preference..... Maybe the tire hookup off the gate and out of the corners will work to my advantage since I will be running a 310 top end....

Any more opinions or input on this out there?

I have a 17.5" No-Link on my '89 and I like it. However, the only thing I have to compare it to was a '86 length swingarm, so I have only had either longer or shorter than '88-89 length.

Keep the 17.5 swingarm. That was a popular length for mx racing. It will hook up better and turn faster. Although it does come down to personal preference, you'll probably like it.

My Laeger had a 17.5.
My Walsh has a 17.5.
I have a 17.5 and an 18.0 for my Roll.

Thanks!! Knowing that others are using this setup for MX and it works fine for them, is what I needed to hear to stop worrying about this...

I feel much better now, and relieved to know I dont have to rush back to steal my Swingarm back from the Powder Coater..
