Predator water pump seal?

I'm working on a friend's 03 Predator 500. Don't have a book and I'm trying to avoid buying one.
Oil is steadily coming out of the weep hole under the water pump, even when it is not running. Anyone had any experience with this?

I assume that the mechanical seal that goes over the water pump shaft needs to be replaced. Is my thinking correct? Not sure that the seal keeps oil from going out of the weep hole. maybe its just the o-ring behind it...

I took off the water pump cover and and water pump impeller. I can see the mechanical seal but it doesn't want to come off. Any tricks? Please tell me I don't have to split the cases!!
