I have heard about useing aviation fuels as an option instead of race fuel. I was wondering what the pro's and con's are?

thanks

I been running it exclusively for thr past 2 yrs on my 13:1 builds. Octane rating is I believe 103. Avation fuel is super consistent and LL low lead so that helps lubricate the head. My spark plugs always look perfect. I dont have one bad thing to say about it. Cheaper than race fuel too. And smells good

thanks guys!
One thing that I have heard is it attracts moisture more then pump gas, and should be stored in a dry area. this could be just a myth but just wondering

I would recommend it to anyone. Very good fuel, and really consistant. I have a 13.5:1 piston with a decked head, so its up near 14:1 and no pinging, bike doesn't run hot at all, and the best part, $5.75 a gallon.

I went to my local small plane airport yesterday... They wouldn't sell to me!! They said they only will pump the fuel into planes no containers...

how are you guys buying it?

do you know someone at the airport?

or is the owner just being a jerk cause I said it was for an atv?

Guy was being an A-hole. I walked right up with a brand new clear VP can and they never batted an eye. They actually said they get alot of MX riders both cycle and quad guys that run this fuel. I'm sure its like cycle shops, or anything like that. Luck of the draw. But there should be no reason they don't sell it to you.

I told him it wasn't for the road. and he still said planes only no containers

yeah no offense but people in Massachusetts can be quite hard headed at time ive experienced it first hand while on a snowboard trip there to hit handrails just try another small airport there should be no problem

One of my local airports will do it, the other one nearby wont.

So you guys running it on 13 to 1 have no problems I usually run c12 which is 112 but some people say never to run under 110 octane in 13 to 1.

I used to run it all the time in my built banshee, two strokes love the low lead stuff. You can usually ask them what the octane reading was, every tank that came in at the local station I got it at, told me what the octane was every time I got it, cause they tested it every delivery. It was usually between 103 and 106.

There have been quite a few reputable people who said NOT to use it, since it's meant for airplanes... low RPM, high elevation, and we need the opposite, higher RPM's, lower elevation. I never ran this stuff in any of my 450R's, always used VP or Sunoco race fuels.

Does anyone know what the compression ratio is in the aircraft?

We tried it in a drr 90 2 stroke in low temps did not stay mixed with oil very good went back to race fuel.

100LL is the stuff that is designed for low flying small aircraft, it differs from jet fuel.

100LL is a 100 octane Low Leaded fuel. I've been running it from the local airport for years now, and it's only 4.40 a gal. so i mix with 93 and call it good!

The myths about this avgas is that it is designed for steady revving motors, it's designed for higher elevation....all of these are MYTHS. it is not designed for elevation, it's made for the low flying cessna's and other similar planes. hell if you're in the mountain you're probably higher than these planes go anyway!

this stuff runs good in our atv's, that's why i run it. and i'm sitting at a stock 2005 trx, besides cam and exhaust and air filter it's still the stuck, 10:5:1 i believe.

??? What proof do you have backing up these "MYTHS" just asking, would like to read....
And mostly all of the naturally aspirated Lycoming-Continental opposed engines have a comp ratio of 7:1

these are just the myths that people claim, my personal experience and knowledge has not led me to believe them.

a good thing to know is that most race fuels are derived from 100LL

I know guys that run it in their dirtbikes..he told me his motor builder went through and freshned it up and said everything looked fine. I wouldn't be scared of it at all.

What about Jet A-1 Fuel?
It is a lot cheaper...
Would it work?

89trx250r

Nooo Jet-A is basically equal to diesel....You have to find leaded(very rare) or LL(common) av gas only....No Jet Fuel...

Okay thanks.
Wasn't sure what it was exactly
