I recently replaced my bearing carrier on my '05 450r due to the stock one locking up. My carrier is now installed, and I have ridden on it once. I went out to prep it for another ride a few days ago and noticed that there is a lot of side-to-side slack. There is nearly an inch of movement along the axle. The lock nut is tight and everything else seems to be in place. What could cause this play that wasn't there when I first installed it? I have not ridden it since, and don't want to until I get this figured out. I'm stumped.

If needed I could get some pictures to put up on here.

Thanks!

Matt

An inch of movement? Something is not correct. Post some pics. Are your swingarm bearings out as well?

Here it is when I pull the grab bar all the way to the right.

This is with it pulled all the way back to the left.

Here is a picture of the whole carrier. When I bought the new carrier it came with the bearings as well.

I realize the screws in the locknut are loose, that was my doing. Also, the adjustment holes for the carrier are not exactly where I want them, but the chain was either too tight or too loose when I got a new one. I'll adjust that since my chain probably stretched out a little since then.

It looks like the axle isn't sucked into the carrier all the way and torqued down. Is the brake rotor hub pushed all the way in after you torque it?

Wiggle your brake rotor to see if it is seated against the bearing. You didn't forget to install the metal collar did you?

Thanks for the responses. I won't be back home until tomorrow morning, but I will check both of those possibilities. The one thing I'm confused about is the stopper ring. When it is pushed to the right to get rid of the gap between the sprocket and carrier, the stopper ring is completely exposed. I don't remember it being like that before I changed the carrier.

The ring being exposed is normal until you tighten the lock nut out enough to cover it. You don't have anymore outward adjustment on that anti fade?

Fastred - Which metal collar?

AtvKid - I don't know much about the lock nut. I bought the quad with the antifade and don't really know how it works.

Here is how the hub sits against the carrier. Do I just need to hammer this hub into the carrier? or am I missing something?

Looks like you just need to tighten the locknut to me. But the metal collar as in the one that goes inbetween the bearings.
