I just bought a new 450r and i got a bill of sale and everything, the thing is the guy said it was an 05 which i thought it was being a kicker. Me and my buddy start taking the plastics off to start looking around and we see a key ignition going to the engine, we also researched and found that the 07 were the ones with white plastics. It has white plastics on and they are stock also. Did i just get a guy that sold me a 05 450r and its an 07. i cant look at the vin becasue the frame has been bodyworked and powder coated it is a legit fourwheeler thought any way of telling?

Front fender mounts on a 05 are made from round stock- 06-up use a stamped plate.
05 subframe is square at the back - 06 and up are rounded.
05 engine has the oil sight glass toward the back - 06 up is on the front.
Clutch side cover on 05 has a extra row 0f bolts at the bottom.

You can scrape the powder coat off at the front plate ( behind bumper) to read serial #, if no plate, it is illegal to sell!! The # before the "K" is the year ex. 5K is 05 , 7K is 07.

thanks for the help, but does it make sense that it has kick start and electric start?

Only 06- up were electric start from the factory. Some people add kick to electric for backup!

06-up can be done with factory parts, but only Gokey aftermarket
(bulky on the left stator cover) will work on 04,05!

It is probably an 05 with 06+ plastics.

So id does have an electric starter on it? Just because it has a key doesn't mean it has electric start. Is the factory headlight switch on it? If so, does it have a hotstart or an electric start button. That would also determine if it started out life as a kick or electric. The color of the plastic would not indicate the year though. Plastic gets swapped out all the time. Post some pics. The oil sightglass on the stator cover is a pretty sure fire way of knowing what year the motor is.
