View Full Version : Trading quad to a bike

I've been trying to sell my 400ex for over a month now. With the economy in the shape it's in and 400's value in the toilet it just isn't happening.

Most cash I have been offered is 2000 and a nice bow. Most of the trades are ragged out quads that I don't have the time to fix anyway.

However, a few days ago a guy offered me a CRF450R with ASV levers White Bros pip on it. From the pics it looks nice and he swears it is mint. He will give the me the bike and $500.

Let me make it clear that I do NOT want a bike. I used to race bikes back in my early teens and I never felt as comfortable on one as I did a quad.
The ONLY reason I would take this trade is in hope that I can trade the CRF450 for cash or a 450 Quad of my choice. ( I have seen quite a few quads on craigslist wanting to trade for bikes.)

Here are some pics of his bike and of mine.

Should I check it out or try to hold out even longer for a trade or some cash?

Worth checking out. Rear fender looks like the guy has flipped it a few times while doing wheelies and stuff. Make sure you do a compression or cylinder leakdown test, those 450s need to be maintained like crazy, and if the owner was lazy you may just be trading into someone's problems.

Bike would look cleaner without all the stickers. Stock graphics is enough unless your stickers are organized..

You have to ask yourself: is the bike you’re trading for worth more then your quad? Then why is he not getting it? Could be it’s just as hard to sell the bike as it is the quad.
Sounds to me like your just spinning your wheels, trading one for the other and you still have to sell the bike.

id say if the bike was any good trade take the 500 put a few aftermarkets on the bike to make it better try to sell it or trade for a 450 quad ask like 2500 for it or 2800 and go from there nice new plastic on the front by the way I forgot all about the hood lol what happened to your nerfs and bumper?

Atleast play around with the bike, a 450 of today is a wilder animal than the 2-strokes of yesterday. I think it's worth more than your quad, and you do have a nice quad. You could probably sell the 450 easier for $2000 and end up with $2500, like $500 more and you have a 450 quad, does that sound about right?

I think I may go take a look at the bike if I can't find anything else to trade to. I have found atleast 3 guys in my area wanting to trade their mx 450 quad for a bike.

Boneless, thank you. The front plastic is brand new. I still have the hood if you are interested. I sold the DG parts. I think it looks cleaner without them.

you probably dont want to do this @ this time of the season, but parting your quad out would get you far.. looks like you have some great parts on that 400 you could easily make a good chunk of change

Yeah I'd really not have that much money tied up all summer.

Also, I've had a thread with a lot of the aftermarket parts here on the sight and on craigslist. Not many people are interested tbh.

I'd trade for that bike in about a milasec. A 450 bike would be easier to move than a 400 around here anyway.
