I have a stock 2000 400ex, just has a Pipe and K&N.

I know they tend to run a little hot, but after installing my spal 4" fan, i noticed no difference in temp.
-fresh 93 gas
-fresh oil

could it be lean?
my main jet is 158
and idle jet is stock.

just wondering if im missing something.
(I also have a popping/slight backfire on deceleration...)

I'm not an expert on jetting by anymeans, but you should track down your jetting issue anyway, even if that isnt the culprit..

Steve or Mark will guide you in the right direction for jetting.. Post your elevation to help them guide you in the right direction..

I think your slightly lean, try a 42 pilot jet and maybe adj your needle a notch richer. Your mj at 158 is in the right area maybe try alittle bigger.

Mine has a uni filter and big gun pipe with header welds ground down and I'm running a 155 to 158. And it runs good nice color on the plug and I'm about 1000 feet from sea level and it's in the 90s down here. My pilot is a 42 tho 2.5 out on f/a screw and stock needle. (3rd notch)

You need a 42 pilot.

And you wont be seeing a significant drop in temps-maybe 10-20F. But only true way to tell would be like a temp gun of some kind or the xr temperature dipstick. Not something your gonna be able to feel from the seat.
