Well, just trying to hang on to my current engine for a season until i go all out with my hybrid build. Well, i wanna stay in the 400cc class this season while i really get the hang of it all again. SO.... What do you all recommend doing while keeping it 400cc?

I was thinking about doing the following...

Stage 1 Hotcam

Lightening the flywheel ( anyone have info on this?!?!? I am gonna search it after i type all this)

450r Carb

P&P

11:1 JE Piston

+3 Key i picked up from wheelie

Also, how about the E85 conversion???

I can't get 110 anywhere around here... but there is a E85 Refinery about 20 minutes from my house... SO.....

Y not go with a stage 2 hc or the sparks x1? its the compression that matters, not really displacement. Make sure you run the xr 400 head gasket. I left my base gasket out too, and it really woke everything up.

If your building a hybrid, Id save the $ on the p&p. The 11;1 piston along with the 450r carb and a cam, youll notice a real nice difference. I got the sparks x1. It has a decomp mechanism and I like the power band it has. seems like more down low than the stage 2 hot cam.

sounds like you have it pretty well covered with the things you have listed, as well as what you have in your sig.
The only thing that you might want to reconsider is the cam.

if you are going to a 11:1 piston, you might be better served with a stage 2 cam.

The stage 1 is more for stock compression, than it is for bore size.
At 11:1, you will still have plenty of bottom end torque, even with the stage 2 in it,..... and the stage 2 will really shine in the mid to upper rpm's.

just my .02 cents,
so with that and a $5 bill, you can buy a GALLON OF GAS ! :D :D :D

Thanks guys!! Ron, thoughts on the E85?

probably not worth messing with on an 11:1 compression motor unless you can get it easy locally. needles need to be changed and jet sizes are about 20% more.

12 oz would be what i would take off of a 400ex flywheel to get it going a bit easier.

sounds like you have the rest ready to rock.

for what I've read about it here in the forums, it does seem to make decent power, and also runs cooler,
BUT,...
you need to jet MUCH higher, and you will lose some considerable range on a full tank.

Not sure that distance is an issue since i am racing mx... Its all so tuff to do...because once you go so far into making a quad for MX you can't just go ride it at the dunes.... and at 7 dollars a gallon for 110 thats not doable either...

11:1, stage 2 cam, 450r carb, port and polish. I wouldnt bother with the timing key, too much heat unless you run 10:1.

E85 is ok, but Ive never messed with it b/c its not available here. Id stick to 93 pump. More compression you have the more power-its highly worth it. If anything my setup might be quite ideal for ya, the extra few cc's dont do much-its the compression.
