Summers been kinda boring for me so far. I've been outta school for a week. I've got a cast on my arm so i can't really do much. It's even been hard to hang with my friends. Because I can't do all the things they do now. Luckily I get the cast off next week. Anyways im chillen at home and im thinking of things to do. I've got a complete bike from a couple years ago sitting in the barn. My first thought was "put an engine in it and make it run" then i thought what do I have for spare engines? Aha 2 old weed eaters down in my barn. I'm lookin at em and the bike figuring out how im gonna do this. I tried starting them. go figure they wont start. i start taking the outer plastics off, then i go get pre occupied with something else but about a half hour ago i go down and start tinkerin with one of them again. and i get it running! i messed around with the carb a little. it could still use some adjustments but hey its running. my plan is to do some mods to the frame with the grinder, then weld some tabs on for the engine(yes i can weld) but my question is, is this even possible? putting a weed eater engine in a bicycle frame and making it run? i may be young but i know a thing or two about engines with being around them my whole life but i dont know much about weed eaters other than its 2 stroke and i love the smell. do weed eaters have a sprocket in them? is this build plausible? what modifications to the engine will i have to make? i think if it works itll be kinda cool to have. if you guys lemme know its possible ill let you know the outcome and how things go. Thanks!

I'm not sure the a weed eater motor would have the bal!s to push a bike with someone on it. Most don't have sprockets, They spin a flexible plastic pole that runs down to the end which turns the line.

ive seen motors on the front of bikes with a roller on the motor that touches the front tire . you shuold make a motorcross board check this out . www.motocrossboard.com

Alright thanks guys. Ya I just tore into it and noticed that theres no sprocket. I've seen people put weed eater motors in a go kart type thing and run fine. The bikes an old wal mart pos i found with an aluminum frame.

Maybe a chain saw engine would work, I know the have sprockets. You might have to fab up one compatible with a bike sprocket tho

It is very doable. We have built a few of them. What we would do was make a bracket to mount the motor on and use a bicycle peg on the output shaft of the motor and that would rest on the wheel of the bike and drive the rear wheel. Usually we would make it so you had a lever to lift the motor and bracket so it was off of the tire and still pedal the bike if you had to. we had some of them doing better than 40mph. I wish i had pics still

^ Very nice.

I would much rather have a tiny kids BMX (12-16") with a powerfull 2-stroke weed-eater engine. The lighter the better. You'll want a sprocket for good tractability. Take out the pedals and put in a bar to put your feet on. Hopefully the engine can be mounted in the middle, either above the top frame bar or below it to make wheelies more controllable.

I think it'd be cooler than a pit bike, just because it seems like it'd have an abundance of power and weigh like 20lbs, cost like $100. If you spin out it's only like half a foot to the ground.

A low-rider kids bike would be cool too (16-20")

I'm putting it in a 20" aluminum framed bmx. it should be light. bike itself only weighs like 12lbs.
