I have a 2000 400EX and i installed my SPAL 4" puller fan last night, im pretty pumped about it...

I know most people are running them off a switch, but id like to run it off the ignition key switch for a couple of reasons.
(Mainly, i have family that will forgot to turn the fan on and off...)

so which wire is the +012v that is switched?

there is
-red
-black
-black/white stripe

coming from the key switch.

(I know green is the ground)

(Im just trying to save a lot of trial and error of wiring chopping....)

I wired mine to the black wire. The red wire is positive to the ignition switch (hot all the time) and the black completes the circuit.I know it seems a little weird but if you look at the schematic you'll see.Just splice the positive wire from the spal fan to the black wire on the ignition and run the black wire from the fan to the frame to ground it and you'll be good to go.Dont forget to use an inline fuse with the fan just in case.

I was pretty sure it was going to be one of the black ones.
