Hey guys... my cousin has a problem this his 400.. he did a 426 11.1 comp... stock cam and exhaust... i think he's using race fuel... stock carb with stock jets... We can not seem to get it to fire... we have spark... have checked the timiing several times... plenty of fuel...

Nothing we've done has worked... it'll thump when you turn it over... jsut does not fire... starting fluid has very little to no effect... the only thing we noticed was the decoompresser srping and pin were missing... but would that cause it to not start??? is there something we are missing??? any help is appreciated...

thanks...

you NEED the decompresion set up on the stock cam in oreder for it to run. also the jetting needs to be changed due to a bigger bore and high compression. you're just asking for trouble

I did the same thing when i built mine. The decomp pin got stuck in the head so it wasnt catching the lever. It just thumped and thumped. sounding like it wanted to start. I took it apart, greased the decomp pin... and it fired rite up.

Ok... so order the pin and spring... and when it goes in... i can't remember.. but does the pin or the spring go in the hole first? which is hittin the cam??

the spring goes in first, then the pin. the pin touches the decomp. mechanism. Just becareful it doesnt fall down the into the bottom end.

Tell him to throw away the stock cam and buy himself a hotcam stage 2, stock cam on a built motor is pointless.

Then go slap him around for me and make him realize what he needs to do.

also....NO need for race fuel, just use some 93. X2 on the stage2 cam and full system, dont build a bike unless your gonna go all out...just makes your chances of a big problem even bigger!

I just sold a hc 2 for 60 bucks shipped the other day. The stock cam is a paperweight. He'd get more satisfaction cornholing it.....

the stock cam is not that bad guys. if you have a big bore and a high comp you will still get gains even with a stock cam. I just finished installing a stock cam in a 426 and this one goes faster now than it did with the stage 1 cam. the stage 1 had lots of torque but it tapered off in the higher revs.

i would almost rather keep the stock cam than use a stage 1 hotcam.
