im going from a hotcam back to a stock cam, i was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to use the little plunger pin and spring that you take out for the hot cam? Thanks guys for any help..

Yes, you absolutely need the plunger and spring with the stock cam and decompression mechanism. It won't start otherwise.

If you were to remove the decompression mechanism from the stock cam (need to press on/off sprocket flange to do this), and weld up the exposed oil holes in the cam, then you would not need the plunger and spring.

it's just 1 plunger and 1 spring, i think you can get them for like 5 bucks a piece on motosport, they go in real easy.

Why are you going back to stock? Do you not have a stroker motor?

I ended up getting the pieces from motosport, i was just wondering if there was anyway around putting them back in so i wouldnt have to wait..lol, I dont have a stroker, but i put the 440 kit with 11:1 wiseco in it, ported head, but i am detuning it for my wife so i put a stock pipe and now a stock cam back in it because the cam noise was driving me crazy with the stock pipe back on. Still runs pretty good considering all that..

i'm trying to do the same thing to mine.

just out of curiousity what parts did you order for the stock cam to work? just the plunger and the spring? did they go in easy? i'm going to be putting my stock cam in here soon but i just wanted to check and see what i'll need.

i have to get cam bearings too.

All I needed was the plunger and spring, They go in very easily, but for safety's sake i might stuff a paper towel down by the cam chain, you know how easy it is to drop little things down into the engine..lol I also got a new metal gasket for the cover, i hate getting something together only to see a brand new oil leak...

was your decompressor a little loose on the cam? if i hold my cam i can kind wiggle the decomp mechanism....is this normal?

I noticed that also with mine, i installed it and it works great. Im pretty sure it must have play for the decrompressor to function properly.
