General Help building 05 TRX450R

Hello everyone I am knew to this forum and I am also new to building race quads. I do a lot of trail riding on my raptor but I am making a switch to racing. I plan on building an 05 trx 450r.

I just bought a frame thats in good shape and plan on putting some good aftermarket parts in it. I got average knowledge of car mechanics and what not, but I am just wondering if anyone can assist me in a build sheet or something for everything I need to complete this race quad build. I feel my list has the big major components but maybe missing little stuff that is important. I feel it would be easier to just buy a completed 05 trx450r then mod it but i`m pretty much putting all aftermarket except the frame. Anyone have any experience with this? By any means any help or advice will be appreciated.

If building a race quad this is definitely the way to do it but also with that being said to do it this way will be extremely hard without quite a bit of 450R knowledge. For instance the 450R made some small unseen changes over the years. In 06 they got more than just bold new graphics and electric start. They had a different frame, were longer, different front spindles and thats just some of it. So you will want most of your parts to be for and 04/05. Something you can use from the 06+ is the swingarm and it will make your quad roughly a inch longer. Best way for you to do this is to gather up everything you need and ask a buddy to volunteer his quad for the weekend to use as a template. These arent a complex quad. I could gather up the parts and have one built in a week with no kind of assistance but i have parted out prolly 10 or 15 of these things. Best thing to do is start gathering up some parts and as questions as you come to the problem. Alot of knowledgable ppl here to help you out. As far as gathering parts it would help alot to have a buddy with a 450R to use as a template an see what you need

Starting with just a frame will be a headache for someone that doen't know every bolt on the bike, or have every bracket. I'd suggest picking up another bike and building one that is already together for the first bike.

Yes i agree you will need alot of small odds and ends that you cant get aftermarket, just buy another bike, build it and sell whats left

id suggest buy a bolt kit anyway. them huge ones on ebay that have over 150 pieces. your best off contacting a guy on this site whos parting a 450r and get parts from him. buy it in sections. front end,rear end, motor accembly, wiring, exhaust, tank,carb, air box, plastics. brakes. etc

go to the honda parts section in the classifieds.. youl probaly find some guys parting out 450rs.

do you have a buget on what you want to spend. if u want to go all out race machine with no worries about cost then we can set you right.

so tell me. whats your buget and i can tell u what you will need to race.

If you have 10k to spend do yourself a favor and buy a race bike already built. You will get a 20k quad for like 7-8.

you can buy a nice ***** quad for 10 grand that has over 20 into it. or buy one for 7000ish and buy a practice quad for 3000ish

you can always rebuild the motor if you got as much money as you say you have. theres plenty for sale in the classifieds. put a wanted thread in the wanted section. tell them how much you have to spend
