ok...so i have good news and bad news.
good news is she fired up. and WOW what a difference.

bad news is there is something wrong making it not run correctly. heres the story...
I put it all back together lastnight. I went ahead and jumped it with my dads truck since i have no battery. it took a minute to fire up but she did. now, i went ahead and used the stock 400 carb for this first fire up. but i took out the stock jet and pilot and put the 165m and 50p i bought into it. When i fired it up, it ran but died. i started it up again and as soon as it fired i cracked the throttle open and got the rpms up there. it only runs at high rpm (about 4000 and higher) for about 5 seconds or less. after that if i continue to give it gas at that high rpm it will start to die. it will only idel for about 10 seconds tops but it sounds like its about to die out when it idels. if i let it idel and give it even the slightest bit of gas it will die right out. any suggestions?......

I would be willing to bet that your pilot jet is way too large. Check your spark plug and see if it is wet or smells like unburnt fuel.

i doubt that it is too big but it is possible.

edit:
42 would be better or try 2.5 turns out on the f/a screw to see if that helps it out a bit.

your main is probably a little big but I know i suggested that also. that wont make it *idle* <<spelled correctly fyi rough though lol.

whats your needle at also?

have you ridden it at all? it should be ridden before really letting it idle for a while, it will def run rough if you start it right after a build and let it idle, at least in my experiences they have for the first few minutes.

hes using a 50 pilot on a stock 400ex carb. wouldnt he want to be more in the 40-42 range? or at least have the screw turned way in? did you adjust the idle screw so its not shut all the way?

if indeed he is using a 400ex carb then yes he should be using a 42 or 40.

my bad, i missed the 400ex carb and saw the 450r carb in his sig. i got distracted with the idel deal. lol

my suggestion was for the 450 carb, that would be super rich for a 400ex carb lol.

sorry,
steve

Its already at 2.5 out. And the idle screw wont do anything in this situation due to the fact that even if i give it a bit of gas it will die at low rpm. And steve, how about this...sgould i run my stock 152m and srock 42p in tje 400 carb at third notch on needle and 2.5 turns out? Sound alright to start out with?
