My son and i were riding this last weekend. During our ride i noticed that my sons LTR was backfiring. At different points in time the quad would stall out and it was very difficult to restart. Right now the fuel tank is being drained to be sure there is no water or junk in the tank. I contacted the Dealer and asked them if the quad was equipped with a fuel filter fuel regulator. The answer I got from the dealer was there wasn't a fuel filter only a screen in fuel selector assy. Is there a fuel regulator of a filter?? What would cause the LTR to perform that way? Thanks

I haven't ridden in a while so I have yet to change one for a while, but there is a fuel filter under the tank, i think in the regulator. The need changes quite a bit. Hopefully someone else will chime in and give you better details.

First try replacing the fuel filter located under the tank by the fuel shut off valve. If that doesn't solve it I would either replace or do a pressure test on your fuel pressure regulator. When my regulator went out it ran the exact same way. No power, popping and backfiring. Don't run it long because you are running lean and not getting enough fuel. This is common in LTR's.

What he said pretty much sums it up. As stated the filter is under the tank, it's called a swirl filter. It does clog up easy. One of the first things I did on my LTR was get rid of the swirl filter and put an inline filter on. Start with the easy-filter, then go on to the the regulator if still no good, which is also under the tank.

my buddys did that during a race, the exact same thing you explained and it was all due to a dirty air filter, dont know but just a thought..

Check your valves
