Took it out to break in the engine, started up on the first shot. It has lots of instant power. It pulls the front end up in 2nd without trying even with the 16t front sproket. I only had enough room to run it in 1st and 2nd in the trails at my house, but i really went through the RPM range and lots of Decel to set the rings. The Cam ticks pretty loud but who cares with how much power it has. I'll need to adjust to carb alittle but no big deal, right now its a 52 pilot,5 clip from the top and 165 mj...i'm waiting for a 48 pilot. I'd like to thank Nacsmxer for all the help and everyone else on here.

That's great to hear man, awesome all the time and planning worked out with that. One of the few 400EX owners with that engine package :macho

Don't sweat the ticking cam, a more aggressive cam is going to do that no matter what. My HRC cam has a noticeable tick to it once it gets good and hot.

My guess is that yours might run a little better down low once you put the 48 pilot in it. I have run a 55, 52, and now a 50. It runs most crisp with the 50 and about 1.5-1.75 turns out on the fuel screw depending on the weather. If I had to guess, you might start out around 2 turns out with the 48. Keep turning it out until you see a noticeable drop in idle speed, then turn it back in until the idle peaks and you have the best off idle throttle response.

How bout some pics or vids of this beast?

Thanks, it seemed to get alittle hot, but i just need to put the fuse in for the spal fan, i may go with a bigger oil tank and extra cooler( id like to go FST style) but may just go inline with stock.

I think that your 165 main jet is WAY too small for your motor, that may be were your heats coming from.

One of your front tires are mounted the wrong way. Sorry, just my ocd kicking in, lol!

I know the fcr 39mm uses smaller jet sizes but even with my stock carb on my mildly built 440 I used a 195 main.

You have a stroked out beast there...lol.

As long as you dont do to much wide open throttle type riding during the break in youll be alright with what you have. I would wait till your broke in properly, then do some plug choping.

It ran much cooler today, but it was also 15 degrees cooler out. It idles great, just alittle hesitation when i throttle it up ...I burp it and my rpms come right up. Havent got into high rpms or 3,4,5 gear lol. Hopefully i get my trailer fixed soon

what kind of carb do you have? your sig says 39mm FCR, is it a yfz carb?

and just incase you havent tried this, you can take a small ziptie and fix the accelerator pump arm on the side of the carb to get rid of the hesitation when you punch the gas.

The engine has been great, still need to tune the carb abit. Its so much fun pulling the front end up in 3rd and 4th even with 16/38/20. Time to work on the handling more, the high speed can get alittle swirley.

wat carb are u running that also plays into heat if ur running a 400ex carb ur jets wont matter the carb will be drowned out by the motor if ur running a 450r carb ull get best results and try a 180 i have a 460 build with a fcr and im running a 50 pilot and a 182 main was my best result but its also got to do with ur weather depending where ur from nice bike though looks good i have some suspension stuff for mx racing if ur interested
