I have just been looking at parts for my LTZ400 and noticed that places sell longer steering stems. I know that they are stronger than stock, but I don't know what the added length is for. It seems like to me if it was longer it would stick up more and be more prone to bending than a stock length stem. What does the added length do?

I am 6"1 and was always bending over before i got mine, now it works excellent and i am very comfortable with it.
