help with valves

Hey guys I need some help. I replaced my rocker cover. The old one was cracked. I timed it like I was doing valves. Removed the rocker cover. Cam lobes were down and everything was in good shape. I adjusted the rear 2 valves to .004 and the front valves to .005. Now it runs HOT, real hot and makes a whine noise. Btw Its all stock and every bolt was torqued.

When you timed it, were the rockers loose? If they werent then the piston isnt at top dead center and you will incorrectly adjust them.

Also cam gear was lined up properly with the 2 lines parallel to the head and the top line sticking up right?
