Yeah it's the nut that holds the center clutch and the clutch basket in place. I'm gonna buy the socket because I used a friends last time, but i don't know for sure what size it is. I'm using the Tusk clutch basket holder tool, to keep the clutch from spinning.

You can see on the parts schematic for the clutch that it is an 18mm, but i believe they are referring to the thread width for that, because my 18mm is much to small.

I think a 15/16 socket fits, if that don't then it might be a 1 1/8, in metric I think it might be a 21 or a 24. I remember a SAE socket working though.

27mm or 1 1/6" Im pretty sure.

Whatever you do dont buy it at sears, holy hell are they $$$. I bought a 54mm socket there for working on something else and it was 30 bucks autozone had it for 15!

i got the 27mm to work.

so i have a stock cam that i'm going to drop in here with this 11:1 compression 426.

this cam nor the head has the decompression mechanism, is ther ea plug or something that i need to get to make this decomp on the stock cam work?

basically my head is bare, and the came is just a stock cam ready to go in, i'm just wondering what i need as far as the decomp mech. goes.

thanks in advance!

But at Sears you can take them back if they break. Some of the cheaper stuff just don't cut it sometimes.

Never broke one from vatozone lol. But most of my stuff I keep anyways. I just wasnt to thrilled to pay 55 bucks for a socket from sears once cause I had no choice since no one else had it and I needed it now. Sears quality has gone far down hill imho too.

Was it a special socket that you needed? Sockets from Sears are pretty decent priced compared to others, being that I farm and such we're always replacing tools from being wore out or snapping and such so Sears hasn't been a problem for us, but it varies from store to store I guess.

Yea, a 54mm socket I needed for a wheel bearing. I kept it only b/c I couldnt find my receipt. Autozone had an identical one for 20.

Ah, I just checked Fastenal cuz we get alot from them too and that socket is $61 from them. But whatever works, just as long as the job gets done I guess RIGHT!

that bearing that sits in the cluch. is it supposed to be loose in there before yhou put that center clutch lever bolt in there?

basically, i have the nut on and the clutch plates and center clutch are on. without the bolt in there i can move that bearing around. when i put the bolt in it feels snug though like that's how its supposed to be?

which bearing you talking about? The lifter (as the manual calls it-the knobby thing that fits in the middle) or the bearing itself in the pressure plate?

The lifter goes on first, then the pressure plate. Pressure plate gets tightened in criss cross pattern HAND tight with 1/4" drive ratchet.
