Let's here some input from people that use the old Volkswagen tie rod ends from autozone/ advance. I know the companies like laeger, burgard, and rickystator don't recommend using them and say they break but im wondering what you guys that actually use them think. I'm wondering this because there was a set of moogs on this pro mx riders quad I have, the price difference is huge and I didn't notice any travel restrictions.
Not to mention Lifetime warranty, and 14.99 each...

i'm using a set of them on some custom OEM a-arms and havent had any issues in the 8 years that i've been running them.

is this for the older style 14mm or newer style 16mm?

I tried going to a couple local auto parts places to get some tie rods ends from a 70 beetle (supposedly the 14mm style), nothing in stock and the guys had no idea what was what - told me I needed a VIN number first :o

so if anyone has a p/n for the 14mm old style, please let me know. thanks!!:)

The ones I have have two part numbers for the same thing. They are ES419R and DES419R. This is the autozone part number for a 1971 super beetle inner right tie rod end. The other side is left hand thread. Advance has them too but they are 2x the price but I'm sure they price match and they are moog instead of autozones duralast..

Another option for 14mm balljoints is outer tie-rods from a Porsche 911 - Part# ES2096R

They're 14x1.5 threads

For 16mm threads I use the 1991 GMC Tracker outer tie-rods.
Part# ES3045R

Are these rod ends zinc coated, or what surface finish?

The ones I have are black. Not sure what kind of coating they use on them but it doesn't seem like paint. I think the moogs are usually zinc coated..
