I've been wanting to do a build for a while, and i think i've decided what i want to do, a fast trail/ hillclimber.

with a 440 big bore kit, a +3 swingarm, p.e.p. shocks all the way around, hipers, maxis razr2's or razr ballance, a curtis sparks full exhaust, houser +2 steering stem, fasst flexx bars, and move the battery into the airbox

sounds pretty good, but if i were you, id save the money on a 440 big bore if your going to use a stock cam, a beter motor would be a stock bore 11 to 1 comp with a stg 2 hotcam IMO. it will run on 91 and be a lot faster than a 440 with a stock cam.

how much power do you think an 11 to 1 comp with a stg 2 hotcam IMO motor would make? and i'm also gonna gusset the frame.

my exact setup pretty much, I run a 416, hotcam stage 2 and 11:1 wiseco piston on 93 pump. I can hang with modified 450's pretty well. In a out and out drag I can either match them or will be behind maybe 1-2 lengths.

To add for reference: I raced a higher comp (not sure of exact), piped, etc 450r and a hrc kit w/pipe 450r and like I said about 1-2 lengths behind or closer depending on take off. My 400ex isnt no 450r, but the ability to lug the engine on tight trails and such is soo worth it. 450rs are to finicky imho with the throttle.

It sounds like it will be a sweet bike. but i agree with the above put a stage 2 cam in it. I had one on my 05 and all i had was a pipe and a uni filter and it made a pretty big diffrence IMO

i've looked everywhere online for a stage 2 hot cams cam and i cannot find one anywhere, anyone know where i can get one?

Im not sure why but hotcams doesnt even list one for the EX anymore.

ETA: I mean they dont list a stage 2 on thier site for the EX or XR400, least last I checked a few months ago.
