YFZ450 Clutch Cable has no slack

After rebuilding my top end I went to put my clutch cable back on. I got it on the lever at the handlebars and tried to slide it in the slot where it goes in the crankcase and there is not enough slack to reach it. I tried adjusting it at the handlebars and it doesnt help. Am i missing something or do I need a new clutch cable?

try rerouting it, the stock cable is almost to short anyway. i got rid of the unnecessary brackets that hold some of the cables and gained slack before i got a new longer cable...
