Well, I lost the damn key to my KFX. Can I get another at the dealer or what?

Yep, they should be able to cut you one or you can get a locksmith to do it.

Just buy a new ignition. It will be cheaper. For the mean time. Unplugg the wires going into the ignition and plug them into each other. This will allow you to 'hot start' your kfx for the time being. Make sure you unplug the wires when you aren't riding so it doesn't kill the battery.

Why would I do all that when I could just get a new key?

Yea, you can hotwire it if you want lol.

Ignitions more $$ and some need to be programmed to the CDI.

My dealer would rap somebody for a new ley and so would almost any locksmith. Ignitions with a key can be had on ebay for cheap a lot of times.

hook the ignition up to a hidden toggle switch that only you can find

You will need some type of proof of ownership for the dealer to sell you a new key.

Yea proof of ownership and the VIN #, pretty sure it was like $25 they can tell what key # you need by the vin #

O.k., now I'm a little pissed. Just called the dealer I bought the quad from and he said they don't cut keys. So he said call a locksmith. Yeh, locksmith wants $120. Can I try a different dealer maybe?

Well, I just called a different dealer. He said take the ignition off and bring it to him and he can make me a key.

I know its not an apples to apples comparison but I went through a similar situation with my 400ex except my ignition went bad. I hot-wired the 400 for a while and then found a brand new ignition with 2 keys for $35

Edit: After a 2 minute search I found this as the lowest price via ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06-BRAND-NEW-OEM-IGNITION-SWITCH-KAWASAKI-KFX400-400-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27ba865811QQitemZ17063 3091089QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Actually no, I'm not.
I finally caught a break for once. The new guy at work also works part time as a locksmith apprentice. Whoddathunkit?! I'm getting ready to call up there right now. He told me last night he'll make me 4 keys for $25. Just gotta take the ignition off.

I just hope this hasn't kept you from riding??Like others have added these can be hot wired in about 10 seconds, all you need is a wire schematic to make sure if it needs to be open or closed, on the Honda you can just unplug the key switch and run it, but I believe the kfx needs the connection to be made,
