ATV Sport "The Great 8 Shootout"

Go out and get this months ATV Sport mag. They took all the sports quads and put them in one big shootout!
The Banshee vs. Cannibal vs. 400ex vs. KFX400 vs. Predator vs. Raptor vs. Z400:D

Yea, I got mine. Gotta love how they bash on the 400ex now! Went from the best handling-suspension-ergos-etc. to bouncy-slow-trail machine of the high performance class! Meanwhile it continues to win races everywhere including the recent Baja 1000 where it came out 2nd in the quads!.....Behind another Honda!
I need not explain any further on this site........you know what i'm talking about.:huh :ermm: :confused2 :grr :grr

It's pretty easy to add more power, not quite so easy to make a quad handle better beyond A-arms and shocks.

Unfortunately, in a shootout like this they compare stock or mildly-modified quads. The 400EX simply doesn't have the power to compete with the likes of the Raptor, Cannondale, or even Z400, even if the 400EX handles better.

3 of the guys i ride with have the kfx's and a z, They aren't that fast I get them out of the hole almost everytime, the only time they outrun me is at full topend, and then they're barely gaining on me. they are great quads that are more up-to-date than an ex but they're not what the mags say they are (Rocketships)

Just my 2 cents, nice quads but people brag about them way too much

I agree, the banshee and the LT500r are the sand dune kings. they are in my opinion the best dune machines out there. The banshee is the best production duner out there.

the Z-400 really isn't that fast or that great in my opinion. my friend just got one and i keep right up with him. we are always right next to each other. but now he has a pipe, K&N filter, aluminum airbox and jetted so idk. gotta wait for the snow to melt and let things dry up a little and see what happens. oh and i need to get some holeshot XCR's cause my razr's are done(completly bald).

the only difference in the machine is the kfx has a protective layer on the head lights so it cant blind you :eek:

Well they sadi if you wanted a racing ready quad the predator and cannidale were the ones to get. They gave the edge to the polaris because of the better ride

lolol, don't get me started on this dirtwheels, atv action crap. I saw in one of them where they said a raptor was a better mx quad then a 400ex:o Oh plz. When I go to the races the quad classes are dominated by the 250r's and 400ex's. The only "problem" I see with the 400ex is the air cooling which is only a problem if you wanna mod the p*** out of it. Anyways, I find some of the articles in those magizines to be a joke and once you've read one you've pretty much seen em' all.

Sounds like more and more riders are getting tired of paying for biased info, including me. That just really makes appreciate a site like this where you get honest opinions, because nobody is padding the wallet to say certain things, its just truth, good or bad.

The only good thing about dirtwheels is that you can compare prices of different products and watch for new products comin' out for your quad, as far as all the other pages in between, they make good toilet paper

you know what makes me upset, the fact that all the honda 400ex really needs to run with the bigger CC quads and beat the smaller 400CC ones is a higher compression piston. If the 400EX came stock with an 11:1 like the Z400 and a stock XR cam then it would have more power. I don't even consider doing a shoot out with the 400EX until the playing field is leveled. I know they are trying to pick the best stock quad. But They always fail to mention compression and what not. It honda would have just done the 11:1 and an XR cam then the Suzuki would be coming in last. Well maybe not I, when you figure Suzuki payed off DW. They never say anything bad about the Z400, not even about the axles and we all know they sucked.

Dirtwheels and atv action did mention the axle problem.....they actually ran a durablue heavy duty axle for the testing after they bent the stock axle.
