Along with the gasket sticking and holding things together, it has two centering dowels on a couple bolts that tend to oxidize over the years and seize things up.

I don't really have any tips for dealing with the issue, you've just got to find a safe place to pry it apart. And prying is DANGEROUS territory, you run a big risk of damaging the gasket surface, or breaking the actual cases. Good luck.

I had the same problem. Do ur best to work it little by little. DO NOT stick anything in that water port to try and pry it off. I did like a (you know what) and split the neck where a radiator hose goes. I barely put any pressure and I mean barely. I had to take it to a weld shop and have it fixed. Keep popping it with a rubber hammer or dead blow and it will come off. I got irritated and pissed and made a mistake, don't do the same. :)
