Ok, after tons of thought I have decided to keep this arens frame to start a new build. I already have most everything I need except little things. I am mostly gonna switch things over from my current R. Now what I'm looking for from you guys is a theme idea. Most everything I have currently is red, blue, and, yellow so I would kinda like to stick with those colors so I don't kill my bank account(but who knows). Any ideas? I want to take everything for pc monday.. I can give a list of everything that will be going on it if you WANT.http://s1180.photobucket.com/albums/x407/hartwill/Snapbucket/?action=view&current=81b9ddb9-orig.jpg

Not to thread jack but I keep seeing Arens frames with bolt on grab bars. I have two subframes that have the incorporated grab bars. Is that rare?

My Arens subframe looks different. that could be an LSR or something else... Mine had a gusset where the top rails and the angular supports meet that has 3 holes in it...

I will have to compare better tonight when I get home. The weird thing is my front motor mount is Chrome too. The previous owner must have had it chrome.

rayman375
05-09-2011, 02:32 PM
I think the newer Arens frames/subframes were a little different than the older ones. The one that I have now looks like the one Troybilt has, the gusset on the sub and no rear upper engine mount. I had a different one a couple of years ago that looked like yours, Will. The a-arm mounts are different too, if you look closely at the pics.

05-09-2011, 03:24 PM
Yea, wow I didn't even notice that his doesn't have a top rear motor mount.. do you know which one is newer? Just curious. You know now that were talking about upper motor mounts I just remembered about my head stay that I conveniently forgot to take to the powder cotter this morning..

looks nice, good progress!! just a quick question..what type of sprocket guard is that? and do you have anything on your rotor?

hartwill
05-15-2011, 09:32 PM
That is a Gt Thunder sprocket gaurd for a 450r. He wont sell it to you if you say its for a 250r because he doesnt think it will work but Ive been using it for about a year now. I ordered a plastic rotor gaurd from him and a plastic full skid plate which are really nice but these too are for the 450r and he says they wont fit but my friend runs both on his 250r. The skid plate is really nice beacause it slides and doesnt hang up on stuff and its only $25.

hartwill
05-22-2011, 08:30 AM
Joe, I have a guy that sand blasts out in Berea then I take it to powder in elyria. I think all together I paid $125 with blasting and powder, and I'm on the hunt for wheels so you'll be the first to know.

Socal, ill take some more pics today. My ride height is 8" rear and just about 8 3/8" front. I have my friend coming over today to help me fine tune the suspension...

That chassis skid is GtThunders poly skid plate from a 450r, all you need to do is cut about 5" off the front everything else is perfect. And they are hard to beat for only $25..
I was debating on new wheels but a lot of people like these and the hold up pretty well so I might just keep them. What does every one think?

socal
05-22-2011, 08:26 PM
The wheels are fine but the gold clashes with your colors. You need a neutral color wheel, alum. Or black.Just PC those black.Just an opinion!

Is this the quad you are using the 86 dogbone on? You recommend that? Seems like a easy cheap way to lower it.

Do you know how wide your front is as is? You recommend the Burgard arms?

With all of that blue and red you could do an Ohio flag theme/columbus blue jackets. I always like flag graphics.:)

Good idea on the Ohio theme. I am using the 88/89 dogbone on this one because the custom axis shock was set up for it. As for the burgard a-arms this is my second set. I had good luck with the first set and have yet to put ride time on these, but I would definatly buy these before any of the full flights or anything like that and Probly over the lonestars too. It's hard to beat burgards price..

DoonRider
05-23-2011, 08:30 PM
You know where you are at for the width on the front? Did you have those PEPs built for you and that quad?

hartwill
05-23-2011, 08:38 PM
No these peps are valved for 200lb mx with +3s. I'm only 155lbs and +2s. I'm working on trading for shocks set up closer to my weight because I can't afford to have these revalved right now. I believe I am right around 47" wide..

u going long travel front and back,
It seemed most of the Arens frames used stock rear linkage but if I remeber right he would build to order.
I always thought Arens was under rated products, so i think it s good frame to go with.

So is it narrow, what arms n shocks and is it cr500, no link, crf450, or std link

hartwill
05-29-2011, 11:33 PM
This is a standard link frame. I'm using +2 standard travel burgards with pep zps fronts and custom axis rear. My fronts are way too stiff for me so I'm in the process of finding new ones. I agree with you 100% about Arens frames, actually at wellsville yesterday I lost it at the top of a hill they call Killer, it flipped about 8-10 times down the hill (I saw a big $ sign flipping) lol. I got back down to my quad and to my amazement all it did was push my handlers back towards the tank. I moved them back forward and rode the rest of the day with no problems..

Alright guys, been a while but figure I'll show you what I've been working on. I built this at first so I could ride it while I'm still upgrading parts. I finally got everything together to finish it how I wanted. New parts include, custom axis LT piggybacks, Walsh a arms, silver Fullbores, and last but definitely not least I had c-leigh racing build me a pro-x 330 complete motor. A arms just came back from PC so here's a few pics. Motor will arrive tomorrow.

Little update for you guys, got my motor put in and started the break in process. Only pitted around up to about 1/4 throttle and I gotta tell you guys it is a MONSTER.. C-Leigh racing knows what he's doing for sure. Funny when I put it in I wasn't sure I could even kick it over to start it, called him up and he told me the trick. Still a leg breaker though. Also got the Walsh arms put on. Here's a few pics. Plastics are just sitting on there but you get the idea. I'll get some better pics tomorrow.

Sounds good man, I'm ready when you are. I still wanna make it up to silver lake this year but the problem is I don't have a vin on this arens frame or a title so I'd hate to get in a spot where they take my quad and I have No way to get it back.

Anyway, the motor is a pro cross 330 non pv. Neil had this cylinder sitting on his shelf from one of his daughters old motors and I sent him a bottom end and let him do his magic. It has his midrange port job on it.

jamieg45
04-08-2012, 10:59 AM
You wont have any problems with not having a vin #, I have a banshee with no vin # on it. I bought it new from Yamaha when I was doing my mx banshee build, but I tweeked that frame and bought a mint 98 with a vin now. I never had an issue with dnr about the banshee and no vin#.

not yet, im still debating whether or not i should. i have heard that it is somewhat of a headache using the 2002 ignition and unventured territory although it can be done. Its kinda discouraging to try any experimental stuff on a brand new engine...

I'm ready to hit some dunes again though..

yea im not really sure I think it went something like this, arens started building frames and not subframes but when everyone started bugging him about it he began producing the subframes.. one of my friends has one of the first arens frames and it had a lsr subframe hes the one who told me about no subframes back in the day

O yeah lol Kinda looking for the lower expansion chamber mount, and around to the silencer...

I think I have it figured out...I used tm designs banshee hangers which worked good, but the exhaust is about 1/4 from the lower rad hose and the plastics pretty much rest on the exhaust behind the kicker. And I cant quit get the head pipe squared with the flange :ermm:
