Instead of booring you by adding pics to my build thread, here you go.Im finally ready to go out and get it dirty.I want to thank everyone who helped out with advice and parts specifically Troy and Dan.Reading others build threads really helps guys like me out.I still might change some things up later like graphics and shocks?I have ran everything from Fox to PEPs on my 450s and also Elka. One of my favorite rides was a YFZ I had with Elkas set up by Precision, those shocks were incredible.Elka has gotten a bad rap due to off the shelf mass production, but when set up properly, they are great so we will see how it goes!Im adding a reminder pic of what it looked like when I bought it a few months back!

Sorry for the way I post pics.Still have not figured out how to post multiple pics!As for the frame,im still undecided on a aftermarket chassis or I would have re-PCd...Now I got to get it out and see how it performs!!!:D

socal no six pack rack on the track?? I must say that looks like a definite contender. Is it a 310 or 330? Also is that stem and arms new from the new laegers? What about the nerf bars? sorry for all the questions but I like what i see.

socal
05-06-2011, 11:24 AM
It's a 310.Yes,the stem and a-arms are brand new.The nerf bars are Rath from my YFZ I sold, they were custom fit, pretty simple actually! And no,they wont allow a six pack rack on the track!LOL...Thanks...

Looks good man, very nice quad. Never been a big fan of gold, but it really does look good.

So how wide did the front width end up with the +4 arms and stock frame? Also, what are the shock specs for those a-arms? (extended eye to eye length and shaft travel.) Wouldn't mind going to +4 arms someday, curious if my current shocks would work.

Doug

NorCal,that seat cover can be purchased from Dirtfiendracing.com. D Bergstrom,it is at exactly 50"...The shocks are 19 1/4,same laength even the +1s use.The extra width is outside of the shock mount point.

Is it at 50" with you on it and the suspension settled? What is your ride height? (With you on the quad, of course.)

socal

Yes 8686,50" while on,I will post ride height soon! This is my new #!Ha,ha...I typically run #19!What do ya think?

very nice!!! im using gold arms and swinger also, but im going with white fenders,,,, yours looks sweet with the red!

I noticed you were using zip ties on your brake lines, until you get clamps use zip ties and run it through a small piece of tubing, to keep the line from rubbing on the arms once dirt starts rubbing you might scratch the arms, I think you know what I mean, just sleeve it like a spacer, this way only 1/8 of an inch of the width of the tie will be making contact with the arm and not the brake line

socal
05-07-2011, 07:19 PM
Yea,the tubing is actually back there.I used the tubing from the stock brake lines!

I like the # but...IMO go with a squared up # instead of tilted.

socal
05-09-2011, 08:54 PM
I agree,I had those #s laying around.I will probably switch back to #19...

There you go. Sometimes it just goes back to your number is your number. Maybe you are just a 19 and thats that. Family and friends may ALWAYS think of you as a 19 first and a 19 would also look good on there. However I do like the the cooler fun that could be had after the race with your buddies being that you would always look like a zero, a nothing, etc etc.

Very nice bike! Great job.

As for the number...I thought about switching to #0 just because I thought it'd be cool to have a number that'd be the same even when my flip top subframe is up....but I've been #45 (or as close as i could get to it) in every sport i played since 8th grade, so I'll stick with it. LOL

Well, got it dirty!!!Went out for the day to do some tuning and get a feel for the ride.We went to Gorman (Hungry Valley) and did some high speed desert trail riding.Gave me a feel on what to expect on a MX track.I was pleasantly surprised on how well it performed, the handling and suspension worked great, especially since I bought the front shocks from one person, and the rear shock from another!(Thanks Troy!)...The carb needs some work,it had a 50 pilot/172 main,I will leave the pilot and try a 180 main. Here are a few pics and a short video. The white R is a childhood friends,he has owned it since 86,bought new back when I got my first in 87!Its good to have a friend like that,he knows the R well! His has a LSR Baja chassis thats for sale by the way!

what did you do to paint that pipe black?

socal
05-16-2011, 09:56 AM
The pipe was already black when I bought the bike, but in really bad shape with alot of rust.I cleaned it the best I could in and out, even sanding it down.Bought the highest heat paint I could find at the auto parts store and put several coats on.Im not sure how long it will last but think it fits the look I have,no real shiny parts!

Yah i did the same thing on a four stroke DG pipe i have, and well, it baked off eventually. so i thought you had found the trick.

Yea,im sure that will happen! My next upgrade will be the Precision bar clamps.I had them on my YFZ and felt/missed tha absence on my R,they make things so much smoother, totally worth the investment!!!

Yes,good thing they are a close fit.Not too many options for the 250...

gtilley45
05-19-2011, 08:17 PM
What did you have to do to make it fit? I'm really thinking about putting one of these on my hybrid, but I can't make up my mind. Are you gonna put a number plate on it? I'm trying to imagine what that'd look like.
