Well, here's another build thread. I bought this 87 frame about 2 years ago and slowly started gathering parts for it. I've always wanted a 250r, and after selling my 400ex a couple years ago and wanting to build a toy from scratch, I decided to build the baddest quad of all time! Enjoy

Frame-1987, I added the Puma gusset kit and fixed all the factory welds. I spent about a week on the frame alone, eliminating unwanted brackets, and smoothing the factory welds. I think it looks alot cleaner. I did all the frame work, blast and powder/powder clear coat. Some pics of the frame coming along, repair and fitting up the propeg nerfs. Its real nice to work at 150,00 sq ft fab facility for doing work like this!

Suspension- Laeger's +2 front, 05 450r from the spindles out. Rear-89 swingarm, 05 450r brake setup, Ohlins shock

Motor- This came out of the 86 bike I bought for parts. It has a ported 85 cylinder, hot rods crank, and is currently at 69mm. 38mm airstryker from a 99 CR250

Lonestar- +2 stem, 450r antifade rotor/hub

New stem bearing/seals and delrin stem bushing. Also put a bearing/sleeve kit in the swingarm as well- might as well be all new!

Here's a few more pics. just been mocking things up, putting on what I can while I wait for parts. I still need to put the calipers back together, get tie-rod ends, bars, cables, brake lines and a rear axle. We do all of our own paint and powder coat at work, so that was free. I blasted all the small parts at my uncles shop using a fine silica media, and the frame was 50 bucks for the clean up blast. I used aircraft stripper to strip off all the old powder. All in all , the frame was in Really good shape. I replaced the 2 lower motor mounts with Puma's beefier pieces, and the previous owner addd the rear lower mounts.

So far I have done everything on the bike, welding, repair, powder and clear. I just need to have my Cylinder measured(piston is brand new) just to be safe. Then I'll put the top-end back on and get the motor in(after a fresh coat of paint ofcourse).

Starting to come together!

The only thing that sucks about this build, is that I'm doing it the living room. I'm getting ready to renovate my house, and the garage is full of drywall, carpet, etc, etc. Oh well, kinda fun though!

I like the customization of the frame and ur attention to detail. I'd love to see it fininshed. And I know that Joel Janssen Racing has AFCO's for a cheap deal, because i bought one. If you can find a brand new radiator for 300.00 ur gettin a Great deal!!! Just a thought? Nice bike though!!
