Basically post up anything that brings back those younger golden years memories. Since I'm not "old" I'm talking your elementary days. I'll start it off

Younger Golden Years Memories ?

Hahahahahahaha ! I was 28 years old when you were born !

I married (and divorced), my first wife when you were 4,

I remember watching saturday morning cartoons in Black and white,...
And yes, Cartoons were only on Saturday mornings.

I remember when we got our first color tv
Our first Microwave oven.
Our first "Cordless phone".

I remember watching Merl Perkins on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom,
Lloyd Bridges on Seahunt.
Chuck Conners on The Rifleman.

How about Hobo Kelly, ??? Bet you never heard of her, or F Troop, Sheriff John, The Banana Splits????

our roller skates and skateboards had steel wheels, and you would crash at every corner.

We played Marbles, and Carroms, and I remember "Pong" was the new hot arcade game, soon followed by Pacman.

I remember when 8 track tapes were considered the hot ticket over the 4 track tapes.

I remember listening to the Beatles, the Monkees, and Sonny&Cher.

I remember Beatniks, "Love children", The first moon landing.
Charles Manson family killing Sharon Tate and the others.

I even remember my parents being upset when JFK was shot and killed. I still have my old Lionel train set.

and yes,
I remember the old Red Ryder BB gun with the compass in the stock !

LOL

Man I miss Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, it was on every sunday at 7pm when I was a kid. Kids today just dont know how bad they have with all the high tech gizmo's in the world. I was born in 73 but remember most of the stuff your talking about Ron. Heck I still watch the Rifle man on the net.

why there are some old farts here.

I remember when we first got indoor plumbing. It came from the same well we just didn't have to draw it anymore.

I remember Sunday night Disney. I to remember pong but you forgot about breakout and space invaders.

smr
05-03-2011, 05:53 AM
I also remember when microwaves came out. We just couldn't believe how fast if would heat something up.

What about VCR's, laser disc and beta. Like the 8 track they have passed own.

I love the threads like these on different forums... You actually do get that weird, sad feeling when you're scrolling through the pics and see something you forgot about or that you were really into when you were young.

http://images.wikia.com/heyarnold/images/7/77/Rocketpower.jpeg

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heyarnold3a.jpg

There was nothing like waking up on a summer morning or sitting down on a summer evening watching these shows and all the other shows on Nick. Feels like just yesterday too. I think its pretty awesome that they brought all these shows back on (or are about to or something)

http://culturalexploration.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/xgames_clr_pos.jpg

X Games every summer when it used to be on for most of the day and night.

And as Pipeless mentioned... TGIF!!!

DANG that brings back some memories. They changed the lineup every few years too... Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Step by Step, Sisssterr Sisssterrr!!!

For some reason it just doesn't seem to be the same with kids today. The shows are all robots and weird stuff like that. No good old fashioned cartoons and kid shows.

Edit*- How could I forget?!

http://www.wired.com/geekdad/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/legos.jpg

Still have most of them and used to build little towns, cars, and houses for hours... "Now where's that Blue Four piece.... I BET THEY DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ME I CHECKED EVERYWHERE" :p

AHhhhh of course the Legos, Hotwheels,Matchbox, and Lincoln logs!
Those were some of the best !

My son has at least 200 cars, and the collection is constantly growing.

A couple of years ago, I picked up a HUGE box of vintange Lincoln logs, and fortresses are often being built on the living room coffee table.

2 weeks ago was my Daughters 10th birthday.
We got her a classic Carroms board, and the kids are Loving it. We play a couple of games almost every night !

Does anyone else remember playing on one of these boards?

Hmm, Im only 26 but I remember alot.

-Nintendo, no not whatever version or thing they call it now-Nintendo Entertainment System aka NES. Then of course super nintendo, and the old brick gameboy (I have one and it still works!) But even better we still had arcades!

-Those cheezy 80's bmx movies, I swear they musta had like a zillion of them tv movies and of course whatever it was called with nicole kidman as an aussie. Course RAD was much better tho.

-80/90's movies themselves. Hmm like Big trouble in little china, terminator, beverly hills cop, ghostbusters, back to the future, caddyshack, batman, bill and ted, etc

-Awesome cartoons/tv shows. I swear as a child of the 80's and 90's we had some of the best cartoons. Mr T and Chuck Norris had thier own cartoons, TGIF-mostly urkel tho, dinosaurs of course, mr rogers, gi joe, transformers, ALF, the a-team, air wolf, mac guyver, dukes of hazzard, married with children, duck tales, super mario bros super show, captain n (bet not many remember that one)

-Toys oh geez, the first super soakers, wet and wild slide thing, nerf, creepy crawlers, pocket monsters

These days things just arent the same. I remember when cell phones didnt exist and then they had car phones and then huge cell phones with a carry all case then the brick phones. Now you can find one smaller than a deck of cards easy.

What I miss the most from the forgotten eras is how nice it seems people were even just a few short years ago, seems everyones a jerk these days.

Dude, you ARE ancient! Cripes, I know I'm an old man, and I don't even remember half that stuff.

I do remember BEFORE the Nintendo came, the old Atari consoles. A joystick and one button. Pong, Space Invaders, and the old Combat games. Great stuff.

And I STILL play with Legos.

Tales from the crypt! Good show...

Not as good as the twilight zone...best TWZ episode ever, and joe rogan was talking bout this yesterday on his podcast, is there was this dude that didn't like people and all he wanted was to be left alone to read. Well a nuclear holocaust happens and he's the only one who survives. So he's at this book store, picking out all these books to read, and is all happy. Thn suddenly, he drops his glasses and breaks the lenses and now can't read, and the episode ends. So awesome!

Looney Tunes-
How many times in each cartoon could Daffy Duck have his beak blown completely off or blown to the back of his head, with Elmer Fudd holding the shotgun at point blank range ?

Stingray's-
Remember the "Orange crate" or "Pea Picker", they not only had the slicks,.... they had 5 speeds with the "Ball Buster" stickshift, long "banana seats", (some of them even had shocks built into the sissybars for the seat). How about the Ape hanger handlebars, Smaller front wheels on a Springer front forks, metal flake paint jobs, and the little generator that ran against the tire to power the headlight and tail light.

lawn darts-
Man,... I'd love to get a set of those !
Remember how much those things weighed ? The 3" spiked tip, and how the fins slid back after you threw them ?
Those things were fun, but it was basically like having a bunch of kids playing in the yard with Whaleing Harpoons !
Sharpen the tips a little on a grinder, and they could go through anything !
My buddy put one right through the door of his dads brand new Mustang.
Another guy sent one through the livinging room window, where it stuck in the back of the couch, right next to where his sister was sitting.

So WHY did they stop making those things again ???? LOL!

The irony that is my life....

MASH was anti war, anti military...I am Pro military. I think if you can get someone who is against your message to watch since day one to the last episode...and re-runs since it ended...you did something right:p

A a history buff, it kills me to know they were in "anti -war" mode during the show but the show revolved around the Korean War, which you rarely hear anyone speak of in an anti war way.

Did someone mention "Mutaul of Ohmaha's Wild Kingdom"?

Look at how far that has come in 30 years. Entire channels devoted to wildlife...and the technology to capture it is insane....not mention the huge amount of hours photographers and videographers put in to capture it.

I still remember the very first "cable" type channel. We couldnt afford it, but you could catch a boob now and then in between the scambling LOL!
