i know 400's have an infamous tick but i couldnt remember if it was only for stock cam's or hotcams. i bought the bike used so if there does hapen to be an aftermarket cam in there i'd be a happy camper :) haha

both have a tick, hotcams have a little louder tick...

i might have to take a peak in my engine then. i doubt it is but you never know..

yeah, could just be stock cam and needing valves adjusted...i know there was a definite noticeable difference from my stock to my stage 2 with the stage 2 being louder

the bike has maybe 200 hours TOPS. guy i bough it from bought it as a leftover and his gf barely rode it and i've put the rest on there since october. valves should still be good right?

yeah, you would think for sure...however occasionally there could be a few little things that could throw it out of time....its still a 400ex tho with loud valves, so you could just have a good ear hahaha, won't really know unless you take a look

same thing happened to me! Bought the bike, i was told it was stock, the valves were really ticken so i had them ajusted. The thing still ticked but it ran so good i didnt worry about it. Tore the thing down after a stud failure and found a nice stage two hc in it! You never know untill to take a look!
