So, I'm trying to figure out the best way to do an easy motor transition for my Laeger Hybrid frame.

I want to put a 250R motor back into it now that I'll be putting a GasGas motor in my HRE, however I want the ability to switch motors at will with simply changing motor mounts.

This is what I'm starting with.

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/?action=view&amp;current=DSCN3578.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/DSCN3578.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/?action=view&amp;current=DSCN3575.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/DSCN3575.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This is the original idea I had which was to simply have a removable lower mount similar to a head stay.

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/?action=view&amp;current=250R.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/250R.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

However after testing some motors, I have found they are too far away to simply change 1 mount in the same position.

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/?action=view&amp;current=DSCN3575copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/DSCN3575copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So my thoughts right now are leaning toward just going with 2 motors and having square tube at the bottom and having mounts similar to the KFX450. The mount would be bolted to the tube.

Sorry about the bad drawing but I think you can get the idea.

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/?action=view&amp;current=Mount.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i289/250Renvy/Laeger/Mount.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So if anybody has any design ideas, please share. In an ideal world I could mount any motor no matter what the position of the lower mount.

My idea was to remove the lower cross members, and design a "cradle" that the motor bolted to that was then mounted to the frame. Then have seperate cradles for each motor... modular design

Check out Cannondale's design. They had a lower cradle like Troy is talking about. You remove it from the frame when pulling the engine, and you already have an engine stand.

its gotta be a craddle design like troy is saying, im tossing around the idea myself

I agree with using the dale design and i would copy how the cradle mounts to the frame as close to the dale as possible and keep the counter shaft sprocket close to the swingarm pivot on each motor setup. if you need pics of the dale cradle i think i still have one i could take pics for you

Sorry, but I checked it out and it doesn't seem practical for this application. Unless someone has some ideas on how to make that work. The lower rails are completely removed and it is square on a dale whereas this is angled.

I think I have it figured out though, the two furthest lower mounts will be put in and will have sliders in them and cross members for other motors.

I have a good idea for one that is similar to a cradle. My real question is why do you want to mount those 4 motors? Do you have all 4? really there is no reason to have anything except a crf and a 250r motor. Jrd did this with their frame but the thing is you end up having your 2 stroke motor really high in the frame so it works with all of them. Its kind of counter productive. There is one correct position for each motor what you do with that is up to you.

I have 3 of the 4, but the idea is that I want to have 2 motors - one 2 stroke and one 4-stroke for winter snow riding. I just don't know which one, so I'll likely try them all, but don't want to have to cut and weld the frame each time.

Does anyone have a pic of the jrd frame and there engine mounts? These pics might help steer you in the right dirrection

How about square tubing on the bottom frame rails and then attach these brackets (one each side) to that to accomodate the required engine ?

I seem to remember that this quad, or an earlier version of it, was built to take a number of different motors.

I think it put each in a cradle that would bolt to the frame the same way.

Yeah, they're interesting! If I ever get SolidWorks figured out, I would like to model that suspension and see how it compares to a traditional independent front.

This one, and one of the handfull of Husaberg quads that got imported here way back, are quads I'd like to take for a spin.
