how hard and how much fabrication is required to make the switch? it seems like a decent amount of quads and people have done it. I would think the worst part would be have the swing arm / chain alignment right

if the frame is aftermarket then its chromoly tube. best way to weld chromoly is tig. so the motor mounts would have to be tiged. and the rear chain alignment. might be able to get away with swaping a swingarm but id have to try it to find out and im content with my houser crf build. if you do good luck.

it wouldnt be to horrible honestly. just a matter of having the tools to do it. i found a deal on a houser frame and scooped it up. if you want to build on i may know where theres a frame at.

I'll sell you the yz PRP. Its in the clsssifieds. $1300 for the frame-swingarm-stem-arms-propegs shipped. It would be a good starter for a conversion.

i would say there are more yz frames cause we started doing it in 99 long before the crf. if you need mounts let me know. and you dont have to tig chromoly i have had mig welds on mine for 11 years now. tig just looks nicer and penetrates a little better.

Mark (profab) has a Walsh wide frame crf and I have been very happy dealing with him on my narrow frame and other parts i've got from him.

One, welding is alot more then laying a bead, arc welding is imo the most common type welding, look at pipe lines.

Two, MIG will get the job on it.... if you know how to weld.

arc weldings good for pipe lines due to the sheilding gas being made by the rod as it burns un like the other processes where the sheilding gas will blow away in the wind.

migs the easiest of them all in my eyes, as long as you know the basics you can lay a nice bead i just hate welding thing walled tubeing much easier to lay a nice bead around it with a tig.
