Opinions are greatly varied,
as to the degree of my "numb mental status" ...
... Just ask my wife
:D :D :D
Another idea is to find a .30 cal ammo box and mount it up where the stock toolbox goes. My buddy did it and I like it-but its a wee bit big for my tastes. It does have ALOT of room tho.
Im thinking about getting abs (pvc is to brittle) and making my own toolbox. Some 3 inch diameter would work fine imho.

I actually did this with my old quad racer. had to buy a 6' stick of round ABS though, lol. Then I got a cap for one side and a threaded cap for the other and glued them on. Then just used a screw in cap for the door, worked great! I am just looking for an original for this bike, but since I still have the rest of that ABS I may just make another one for my 400 I just picked up.
I never had the original one (who knows where it was since I bought used) but the problem with the stock box is the cap comes off and everything flies out.

Good to know about the cap coming off, I was not aware of that.

I have a stock 400ex tool box for sale.
PM me if your interested.
jokers racing has a decent looking stainless iirc square box. as for the lid seal guys get an old tire tube or piece of rubber roofing (2 layers with the first *cap side* layer being 1/16 smaller cut to fit clean well and secure with come putty of your preference or availability.
